Kim, over at 58 degrees has some excellent insights into what our "race" should be based on.
You should check it out.
It has caused me to ask myself some deep questions:
Do I experience God based on the familiar? Like, in corporate worship at church, the way that I have been shown to experience Him, or through other believer's experiences?
Or, do I truly allow Him to show ME His ways, His character based on MY Spirit-filled walk in which I desire His revelation to me every moment of every day in any situation I find myself in??
THAT is truly what I desire.....ache for, in fact.
Isn't is so easy to get busy DOING for God instead of BEING with God?
Do we, as women, feel guilty for taking time out for ourselves because we have so many depending on us and any time we take for ourselves takes away from the people we care for around us. Or, we put standards on ourselves that we think we have to live up to every day and, really, what does it matter if our house is clean and our children are fed and our husbands are happy if we, ourselves, have not taken the time to BE with our Saviour, who has the best plans for us, and who desires that intimacy with us that we so easily give away in the name of housework/duty/parenting/service?????
I truly think it is a delicate balance between being a Mary vs. a Martha, but what did Jesus say? He blessed Mary for her devotion to Him and He chastised Martha NOT for her service but for her ATTITUDE toward Mary.
I am inspired to SIT and be with my LORD....call it my "date with God".
May God bless as you go along your way and may you be mindful of God's voice of Truth in your life.

It is so so true. How often do we get too busy to be with God? He isn't interested in our "duty" to Him, He is interested in our heart, our relationship, our being with Him. You have written it so beautifully.
One of the blessings of living abroad (yes, there are a couple), is getting to meet God in new ways. People from other parts of the world meet with God, worship God, praise God, pray to God, even experience God in ways so different to what I have in America. It has opened my eyes to a God "bigger" and more "complex" to what I've know before. It is a blessing.
